Your opinion on older siblings helping to name younger siblings vs. ?
I’m just curious as i’m currently having baby #5. My older children are all at ages where they have their own opinions and are able to express them. My twins Emily and Alice are 9, Ruby is 7 and Jasper is 4. Me and my husband love hearing their opinions on names we like and their middle name ideas. However after mentioning this to friends, they basically thought I was crazy. So was just curious to know what, your thoughts are? - Ellen

I think it’s a wonderful story when you can say my children helped pick their siblings name, or "Emily picked her first middle name and Jasper suggested this name which sounds just like his first name. Ultimately the child will be named by your and your hubby
We are using my older kids suggestions for our baby girls name. Its not ’crazy’ for you to allow them to have some say in their baby siblings name, as long as in the process, the kids feelings aren’t getting hurt, and you and your husband like the name, it is your child still. That would be my main concern, is how are you allow all 4 of the oldest kids to have some say in the name since you’re probably only looking for two names. One for the first, and one for the middle? If it starts becoming a problem from that aspect, then that is when there should be a change of plans, and only you and hubby name the baby, using none of the names that any of them had suggested previously. My two oldest together came up with Chloe Rebekah for our new baby. We liked it, there is nothing wrong with it, and at the end of the day, its pretty! Why not use it? GL with everything.
I think it’s very cute to let them help, but certainly don’t go with a name like hotdog because you HAVE to let your children help and that’s what they suggested. If you like something they say, then use it if you want, if you don’t, then don’t.
It’s a great idea and of course you can still choose which you like best too.
I think it’s great! It might make them feel proud and more connected to their new sibling!
