Bennett Wichita vs. Bellamy Wichita

We have three children named Spencer Tennessee, Nora India and Imogen Egypt. All the middle names are extremely important places to us. He will be our last child. We are leaning towards Bellamy because it has a lot of meaning but my husband also likes Bennett.

go with Bennett If I heard Bellamy I would think it was a girl.

Bellamy is very boyish to us... I’ve never understood the idea behind giving it to girls.

It probably has something to do with the fact it has Bella in it which is very very feminine.

Allison has son in it which is really masculine... but girls all over the place have that name.

most son names are used on girls now so that’s nothing and Isabella/Isabelle Bella/Belle are some of the most popular names for girls now and ever.

Which is a shame. I’m just saying people shouldn’t ignore a name they like because some people decide to use it on girls. Bellamy is a boy name and the only reason my husband even considered another name is because someone told him a lot of people use it on girls.

Use it but don’t be surprised when you son comes home upset because kids are teasing him and calling him Bella.

Okay I voted Bellamy before reading the poll was for a boy! So I take back my vote and choose Bennett. Bellamy is all girl!

I understand your frustration with people thinking Bellamy is feminine. Unfortunately, I am on the same page as those people. It’s originally a surname so it is technically unisex but there are many things that make people use it for girls more often

1) It starts with "Bell" so many Isabel/Bella/Annabel names are popular right now. Many parents choose this for their daughters as a unique choice that can still have the Belle/Bella nickname

2) The second half of the name is "Amy".

3) The French phrase Belle Amie means "beautiful friend". While they look different, they are pronounced virtually identical. Many people wouldn’t name a boy something that is connected to "beautiful"

Just my thoughs, but if you’re set on Bellamy..use it. I’ve never met a Bellamy for a first name, just people with Bellamy as a surname. Bennett has more substance imo and is stronger/more handsome. At the end of the day though, he is your son.

Even though it’s a boy’s name, I don’t think it’s a good idea to give a boy a name that starts with Bella.

Bellamy may be a "boys" name, but it combines two very popular girl names. I would be VERY afraid of giving him such an easy target for kids to be cruel to him (and unfortunately they will be). If you are set on it then use it, or give it to him as a middle name, Wichita Bellamy.
