You keep asking this and getting the same answer, keep looking. It is the name you use. It doesn’t matter that it isn’t your given name. You still use it. So keep looking!

What’s the problem?
If it’s what she likes, she should go with it.

I don’t like it b/c it is her name. Not a fan of jrs. male or female.

Oh I didn’t realise that. I don’t think using your own name for your child is appropriate. Maybe give her your name as a middle name as well as the one you already picked out and find a short sweet first name.

What about something that sounds like your name but isn’t? Like...Melody? Larissa? Alyssa?

I don’t think it’s a problem to use Melissa Lynn, especially if you used a different nickname (Mel, Mellie, Lissie, Lissa...). My son and husband (and father-in-law and grandfather-in-law) are all James, and it works just fine. They go by Jamie, Jim, Matt (middle), and Jim, respectively.

I don’t think of it as conceited to pass on a name. I’ve chosen family names for my children because I want them to remember where they came from, so that they can take the love of their family with them wherever they go, and so that we can remember and love their namesakes.

I think it’s a great name. And it doesn’t matter if you’re naming a child after you, as long as you love the name. And you do.

If you really like Melissa, use it. I personally find Melissa Lynn to be terribly dated and unoriginal.
