Elizabeth? vs. Yes vs. No
I like Elizabeth for my baby girl, but I’m concerned b the numerous nicknames. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that I prefer Elizabeth as a name on its own - I think the nicknames kind of spoil it. How do I stop people from shortening Elizabeth to Libby, Lizzie, Betsy, Bess, etc? Or should I go with a much shorter name with no nicknames? I also like Alice and Grace. Should I go with one of these or stick with Elizabeth?

I know of several Elizabeths who are never called by any nickname and some who are. I think it all depends upon what you start out calling her. The parents set the tone.

You should still name her Elizabeth (although I prefer Grace)

If you don’t want her to be nicknamed by friends, then call her Grace of Alice. Would you consider Beth as a nn though? Eliza? Ellie?
If not, then use Alice. Traditional, sweet and cute. Also, my name!

I have a friend Elizabeth and no one calls her anything else because that’s who she introduces herself as, so it should be alright.in fact, I’ve found people are more likely to call a Grace Gracie than an Elizabeth Ellie or Lizzy...

Honestly, I think nicknames are inevitable with any name. I would just use the name you love and if someone tries to nickname her, kindly tell them you don’t want her to have one. But who knows, she may grow up and decide she likes nicknames. It just depends on how much it would bother you if she did get a nickname. But Alice could be shortened to Ali and Grace might get Gracie.
