Shane/Shay vs. Girl names?
Hello,
I am four months pregnant with my second child
My first child’s name is Shawn and I do not want to find out what our second baby’s gender yet
We love the name Shane/Shay? Could Shay but the nickname for Shane?
We have not decided on a name for a little girl (here’s hoping lol )
We wont to stay in the S names
and I dont think this will make a difference, but we are jewish..so we would want a "jewish, american name, Kind of??"
Thanks.
Hannah and Michael

Whoops sorry, first commenter here. I thought it said "We won’t stay in the S names." Shawn and Isaac was the first thing that came to mind because my friend named her son Isaac Shawn (:
I like Seth from the above poster.
Samson is also really handsome.

Shane is nice for a boy and you could use shay as nickname. If it is a girl, you could use Shea. (Pronounced same as shay but more feminine spelling.)

Well, with the Jewish thing. I’m Jewish and Sara was Abraham’s wife and one if the four women in the Avot V’Imahot. I would use Sara, or if that’s too plain for you, I would put a little spin on it: Sarai, Sarabella, Sara Sage. Or just use Sage. Shawn and Sage would be quite cute.
For a boy, I’d use Sam (Samuel, Sampson). I know a lot of boys named Sam who are Jewish and I’m pretty sure it has biblical significance.

Shane is too close to Shawn in my opinion.
I think of Shay as a girls name since the only Shay’s I’ve know were girls.
Shoshanah is the Hebrew name from which we get Susannah/h, Susan, Suzanne, etc. While I think Shoshanah is too close to Shawn, you might consider one of these variants. The name means lily.
Other S boy names you might consider:
Saul (Hebrew name)
Samuel (Hebrew)
Seth (Hebrew)
Steven/Stephen
Spencer
Sebastian
Silas
Stanley
Simon
Simeon

I definitely would not use Shane if you already have a Shawn. My brother’s name is Shane and it got mispronounced as Shawn all the time. They’re just too similar.
