If I saw Leia I would pronounce it LAY-ah. If I heard LAY-ah I would spell it Leia.

It could be pronounched Lee-ah or Lay-a. I don’t know what I would think, I would probably hesitate with the pronunciation. Leia is more attractive of a spelling than Laya. Leia is also a sensible spelling of LAY-ah because of Princess Leia and because Leia starts with "lei," like the flower necklace.

I would pronounce Leia like LAY-uh, and would spell "LAY-uh" Leia. Some people might say LEE-uh, though. I prefer Leah (LEE-uh) to LAY-uh (any spelling).
