Bella Swan vs. Yes vs. No

We really like the name Bella Swan for our little baby girl, because my grandmother was called Swan (and I’m named after her) and the grandmother of my husband was called Bella... Now the only hesitation we have is that everyone will think she is named after Bella Swan in the Twilight stories. Would this be a reason for you NOT to use the name? Funny coincidence; grandmother Bella her last name was Cullen.

Thanks Jayden-Lee for the suggestions! We’d prefer using the name Swan as Swans have been a big part of our own love story, but then again maybe not in combination with Bella...

Bella is fine, but Bella Swan is too twilight. Its not something I’d want to saddle a child with being so connected to a pop culture reference that a fair amount of people have mocked and ridiculed.

Yeah that exactly the reason why we doubt the name, eventhough we love it and it’s both our grandmothers names.... I just wonder how many people will still link it to Twilight in say ten years time...

The name is too cutesy even if it didn’t have the Twilight connection. I do think Ella Swan would be nice.

I would use a variant of Bella with Swan, if you’re uncomfortable with the connection. (Not sure how long the Twilight series will be part of pop culture). I love that the names have special meaning for you.

I like the suggestion of Ella Swan, we actually considered that name... Except that my pop won’t stop singing ’under my umbrella ella ella’ as a joke -_- But it’s true; she won’t be using her middle name, it’s just on the passport and other official documents.

I would use a variant of Bella for her first name and Swan for her middle name, and call her Bella as a nickname.

I think these names are beautiful variants of Bella and you can still use Bella (as a nickname) and Swan for her middle.

I think Bella Swan is a beautiful name, and most people won’t know her full name, so I think you’re fine. And would it be the worst thing ever to have your daughter associated with Twilight? No one her own age will make the connection, if anything, it’ll be their parents, and again, they won’t even know her middle name is Swan.
