WDYT vs. of the name... vs. Wendy?

PLEASE COMMENT! Besides the fast food place, what do you think of when you hear the name Wendy? I am considering it for a girl. "Wendy’s" is not common ANYWHERE near my area, I barely hear it or see it anymore besides the commercials. I’m not really into old fashioned names, but I do like this one. I don’t want this to be long so I have a few questions I will post in the first comment and please give your opinions! Thank you - Jackie H.

I don’t like the name, but if you named her that I think it’s fine. I don’t think you should worry about the restaurant. GL!

I think of Wendy from Peter Pan which would be a great nursery/baby shower/ birthday party theme!

I have a few important questions: 1. Can Wendy work on it’s own or do I have to use Gwendolyn as a full name? My sister wants me to go with Gwendolyn but I dislike it. She says it sounds more "professional". 2. Are Randy and Wendy too alike? My best friend has a brother named Randy, (not short for anything) and our families are close. I barely see him but since he is my friend’s brother are they way too close sounding? Like in a weird way. Lastly, question 3. What kind of person can you see with this name? What is their personality like? I have never met a Wendy before and am curious on what people think of when they hear it.

I don’t think you have to name her Gwendolyn. You can give her the name Wendy on it’s own. Also, if you hate Gwendolyn that would be silly to name her that. I definitely DO NOT think you should worry that your friend’s brother’s name is Randy. That’s irrelevant. Also, I see a cute girl with pig tails when I think of the name. But I think it will age fine too. If you like it that’s what is important.

It can definitely work on it’s own. I don’t like Gwendolyn either... Randy and Wendy are not too similar. I’ve honestly never met a Wendy either. I can’t say I have that much of an opinion on it. That could be a good thing. She would have an easy to pronounce and spell name that is uncommon. My only issues are it seems a tad dated to me, the Peter Pan thing would get old and you may not have the restaurant but she won’t necessarily stay where you are.

Wendy from Peter Pan totally slipped my mind! Oh and I didn’t realize I put "have to" in there. I meant more like would it be better for her. Also poster two, that suggestion for the nursery is...Darling! Sorry, I just couldn’t help myself :) Any more opinions on this name are REALLY helpful. I am open to middle name suggestions, as long as they are not filler, trendy, or too old or "vintage" sounding. I am drawn to more Spanish/Exotic sounding names... I’m not sure why, but they seem so pretty to me! Yes, I’m very picky. It’s a miracle that I even found this name. Thank you!

I follow a little girl with special needs named Wendy on a social network and she is absolutely adorable! So I think of her when I hear the name. When I first heard it I thought of Peter Pan or the fast food restaurant but I think on a day to day basis people will look past that and see Wendy as herself and not anything else. At least that’s how it usually works. And I don’t think you have to name her Gwendolyn. Even though I really like that name I think Wendy is fine on it’s own. Hope this helps with your decision. :)

BTW here is a real life Wendy...

I think Wendy is adorable. I have a friend named Wendy Ann so it can be used on its own. I don’t care for Gwendolyn either. If you like the name-go for it!

I love it! My daughter’s cheerleading coach is Wendy. She’s very outgoing. I know another Wendy who is also outgoing and a lot of fun to be with. Neither is named Gwendolyn, if that helps.

She is such a beautiful little angel with an amazing story! I think I love the name Wendy even more now. And I like the suggestion of Wendy Karina! Still open to more suggestions, Thanks!

My first thought, besides the restaurant, was Peter Pan’s Wendy. I don’t really like the sound of it, because it kind of sounds like you’re saying "windy" like something having to do with the weather. It’s not terrible, and it’s kind of cute, but nothing I would consider.
