Would it be weird/ offensive? vs. yes vs. no

I’ve fallen in live with some Arabic names, Safie and Nadira for a girl and Jamil and Raffi for a boy, however, I am English. Would it be too weird or offensive to use any of those? Should i just use them as middle names maybe or use something similar?

You could call them Sapphire "Safie" and Rafael "Raffi" ?

I agree with poster 1 but I would go with Saffron for Safie and Rafferty/Raphael for Raffi.

I don’t understand why it would be offensive. Surely we all use names from other countries etc all the time. I think it could, or should, be considered a complement.

It isn’t offensive. if that were the case Americans, could only use American names.

I agree with posters 3 & 4. Go for it!

Definitely not offensive at all. I understand what you mean about some names potentially looking strange on an English-speaking child from an English-speaking family. Jamil might fall into that category but the others do not.

I don’t think it would be so much offensive as just weird. Some names I think you can get away with that, but others will definitely be getting some strange looks, mostly because you’ll be messing with people’s perceptions. If they see the name, and assume the kid will be arabic, they’ll be shocked when it’s something different. Just like if you saw the name John and then a girl showed up.

I think it would be a great idea for a middle name!
