Popular vs. Names?

Would you chose a name that is popular? Why or why not? There are some names I like that are popular (Amelia, Scarlett, Sophie, and Lucy for example) but I’m not sure whether it should use them. Thanks, Addy

If you like a name go for it no matter if it is popular or not. Give her a middle name not so popular

Yes, if I loved the name I would use it whether it was popular or not. Your love for a name should trump popularity, nothing wrong with having a popular name at all. If you love names like Amelia, Scarlett, Sophie, and Lucy then you should use them, the names are very pretty.

I wouldn’t choose a name that is in the top 20-30, just because she will be one of several in her class. I always hated going by "Kaitlyn G" in school because there were SO many other girls with the same name as me, and it got really annoying. In school, I felt like I had no identity because I shared the same name with so many people.

I would choose it if I liked it. My daughter has a popular name and she’s never been in a class with someone the same name. I had a popular name and I liked it - no one could make fun of my name. Also, everyone knows how to spell it, pronounce it, etc.

Yes I would choose Jackson or Ayden for my next kid because I love those names. My kids names are Owen Dallas, Emma Claire, Luke William, and Charlie Peirce. pick a name you love

I had a popular name and was fine with it. I was such a shy, quiet girl who had a hard time making friends, however, when there were other Jessica’s I would meet, we would bond and become friends and all the Jessica’s I met during the school years and still some of my best friends till this day. So me having a popular name was a positive experience for me.

I say choose the name you love regardless of popularity. I work in a day care and met kids with names that are considered less popular in the stats then the ones that are actually well known.

If you really have your heart set on a name that’s popular, it’s ok to use it. Your child will probably be thankful that you gave her a name that others will be able to pronounce. To tell you the truth, there are so many crazy names and crazy spellings these names that I’d rather go by Amelia R. for a few years in school than to have to spell Chrystyania, Izzabellah or Brynnleigh 20 times a day for people the rest of my life.

I love popular names, as well as some not-so-popular ones. I don’t think popularity really matters that much, as long as the name has meaning to you. Your children will thank you for picking a name where you can say "Honey, this is why I named you Sophie." I would rather have a popular name myself than to have a name my mother thought was only "second best".
Use the names you love!

No, while I do like some of the more popular names I would never use them. I would avoid at least the top 100. Annoying to have the same name as half your class.
