Is the baby girl’s name Gypsy offensive? (Don’t answer based on if you like the name or not - just on its offensiveness). Thank you!

I think it would be offensive to people who are gypsies.

I would say yes, Gypsy is technically a race and a culture - it’s sort of like naming your child Islam or African. I know some people do name their children Africa, China, Asia etc. But I’d say that could be offensive too.

Gypsy or Gypo is often used as an offensive term, or in England anyway, I’m not sure about America. Like Ginger is an offensive term in England, but apparently it’s more of a common baby name in America.

I don’t think so. I’ve met a woman named Gypsie (that’s how she spells it). I thought it was unusual, but I did not find it offensive.

Are you a Gypsy poster 4? That is like most people don’t find using Cheyenne offensive, but if you asked Indians they would tell you they were offended.

I think its a similar situation to the name Cohen. Its a risk, but you can’t please everyone and besides, everyone else doesn’t matter. Its not everyone’s baby, it’s yours. If you like it, use it. Don’t worry what other people think.

There used to be an "exotic dancer" called Gypsy Rose Lee. That’s where my mind usually goes. I, however, used to have a cat named Gypsy.

You have to think about how her name will look on a job application/employment resume when she grows up. Unless she’s planning a career as a Hooters waitress, she will never be taken seriously with a name like Gypsy.

I actually new a little girl called Gypsy, she was about 7 and everyone loved her name. (England btw, don’t know if it’s offensive or not in America)

I love it!

Gypsy might be cute on a small child, but it won’t be cute on an adult. Imagine trying to get respect from a CEO with a name like Gypsy. Think of the child’s future instead of trying to get attention for yourself.

Yes, I do find it offensive. To "gyp" someone is cheat them out of something, and a "gypsy" is referring to a specific group of people. I’m not sure why anyone would even consider this as a name.
