Fictional Role Models vs. Which are your favorites?

We want to name our daughter after a fictional character (film or literature) who is a good role model for girls. After much brainstorming we finally have a list of names! Pick your 5 favorites and say what characteristics come to mind when you think of that character, and would you want your daughter to be like them? Also please tell us which names are not so easily connected to the character. We know some of them are unusual (there’s always the middle name, lol) but that’s fine. Thank you very much for your help!

I don’t really find any of these "out of this world", they’re cute.

My favorites are:
Annabeth
Beatrice
Luna
Matilda
Violet

The only ones I don’t care for are Petrova, Nani, Galadriel, Kida & Cimorene.

I actually think you could mix and match any of these and come up with a really cool name.
Beatrice Scout, Luna Matilda, Lizzie Annabeth...

My favorites are:
Sara - I think this name is so sweet and I think a subtle connection is better than a blatant one. I love Sara Crew because she is kind, brave and always so positive even when things took a turn for the worst. I would definitely love it if my child emulated some of her qualities

Luna - I love this name. I think its cute and quirky. Luna Lovegood is one of my favorite characters. I love that she is not afraid to be different and is always there for her friends and I like the more subtle connection as well.

Charlotte - Love this name. I’ve never read Charlotte’s Web so I can’t say much about the character but I’m sure she’s lovely.

Lyra - I think this name is different and spunky. While the character Lyra does have some qualities I wouldn’t want to see in my own child, she is very clever and brave which is a plus.

Violet - Pretty Name, subtle connection, and great character.

I would caution yourself with naming kids after a character because it is just a name. While they may be wonderful names your child is going to be who she is regardless of her name. I feel like people who name their children after characters they love often have expectations for their child to be like that character, and most of the time they are not. Just be careful to realize that your little girl will probably not be anything like the characters in those stories and don’t try and make her be like them.

Annabeth, Beatrice and Leia are the nicest imo. And great namesakes, too. If the namesake is an important part of it for you, Leia would get my vote.

My favorites:

Luna - between Hermione and Luna as role models, I would choose Luna. Hermione has self-confidence; Luna doesn’t even realize that a person like her is supposed to need self-confidence.

Beatrice - the Shakespeare character is smart, funny, and levelheaded. The Divergent character is brave and doesn’t give up. You get the bonus of both classic and modern literature :)

Sara - she’d be too passive and girly-girl to make it as a literary hero today, but she’s a real role model. She’s kind to others, never loses hope, and uses her imagination to make a better world for herself.

Violet - brave, creative, curious about everything.

Kida - my favorite Disney princess, so I’m a little biased :) She’s curious about everything and dedicated to her people. I would save this for a middle name, though.

Luna - true to herself
Lyra - brave and caring
Matilda - intelligence and enthusiastic
Charlotte and Petrova - I’m not familiar with these characters but both are beautiful names and I can’t think of any negative connotations.
