Thomas Mitchell vs. Mitchell Lucas vs. Neither
Hello, we are planning ahead. My husband’s name is Thomas Mitchell and he was named after family. My nephew thought it would be cool if we named him Mitchell. If we have a girl we plan on naming her Sophia, which is my middle name. My nephew liked the idea of using my husbands middle name too. So do you think we should use Thomas Mitchell or Mitchell Lucas or neither? If you pick neither please explain and suggest names. Thank you :)

I personally HATE when parents name after themselves -- super tacky in my opinion so I would stay away from naming the baby exactly your partner’s name. Using the middle name isn’t as bad, so Mitchell as a first name would be my pick, though I personally don’t like the name Mitchell at all. What about using a combination of initials, if your middle name is Sophia and your partner’s is Mitchell what about SM or MS initials? Its a subtle theme and much less tacky IMO.

I adore mitchell but my husband however doesnt. I liked mitchell.Lawrence.or mitchell elias. Mitchell thomas flows just as well.

I have personal sentimental reasons for using Sophia. It’s after a friend of the family whom I was named after. I’m not planning it as a tribute to myself. It just turns out that way since it’s my middle name. I’ve alwa loved Thomas and hoped to name my son that. Fortunately I got to marry my husband who is a Thomas. I love it. Mitchell as a first name is growing on me. Our daughters name will be Sophia Christiana (our 2 favorite names).
