She Stole vs. My Name

I had told one of my COUSINS that if I had another girl I would call her Pippa. We both got pregnant around the same time and she is now saying her daughter will be called Pippa. My DH is heartbroken as Pippa was his mums name and he really wanted that name. We have 4 other kids: Amber Charlotte, Camilla Francine, Rose Marilyn and Tyler Richard. Our other girl name is Lola and our boy names are Connor Robert and Xavier Charles

If you LOVE it, USE it. Who cares what your cousin names her kid.

Pippa isn’t my style but if you guys already stated you were using that name, use it.

That sounds awful! I would definitely confront her as Pippa means much more to your family. Lola is lovely though.

I think Lola Philippa would be a nice alternative (Lola Pippa sounds choppy). This way, you avoid conflict with your cousins while naming her after your mother-in-law. Xavier Charles makes me think of Charles Xavier (my friend named a horse after him, so I actually just think of her horse when I hear this name), so I’d vote for Connor Robert (plus, I think Connor matches your other children’s names better than Xavier). I think Alexander Charles nicknamed Xander would be an option too. It matches your other names better than Xavier while having a similar feel. So I guess my vote would be Lola Philippa and Connor Robert with Alexandr Charles as a close second.

Lola Philippa is a pretty name and I would love to have some sort of meaning for my MIL in there because I adore her!

Sounds like Lola Philippa is the perfect compromise then!

Let her know that you are using it even if she uses it because it means so much to your husband.

Xavier Charles is a really strong name.

Confront her about it but whether she backs down or not use the name anyway if it’s a girl. She has no right to be upset given the fact that she stole it in the first place. If it’s a boy, go with Xavier Charles.

Who is due first? I would tell her you are using it thats that.

I am sorry you have to go through this. If it were simply stealing a name you liked, it might be a little different, but using the family name of another family is too much.
I think you should just tell her you are using the name, and if she wants her daughter to have the same name as yours, she can use the name too, but tell her the name is important to your husband, and therefore you will be using it regardless of whether she uses it. Odds are she will end up changing the name, or having her daughter go by a different nickname.

’’Let her know that you are using it even if she uses it because it means so much to your husband.’’ That’s exactly what I was going to say and if that doesn’t make her back off DO IT and don’t be ashamed of other people saying you stole it, just tell everyone what happened, but USE the name anyway, you love it, you know she is wrong, don’t let her stop you.

And Connor Robert is awesome, I love both names, I don’t like Xavier and Charles Xavier is a really famous X-men character, but if this is your last child and it ends up being a boy it would be kind of mean to stop her from using it since you wouldn’t use it anyway.

Use it!! Your daughter and husband are SO much more important to you then your cousin. If she doesn’t like it, who really cares?
