Isla Ashton vs. And vs. Lyla Kennedy

I have always loved the names Isla and Lyla (lie-luh) and when I found out I was having go twins I was thrilled to know I could use both of these at the same time. The names we thought were, Isla Ashton and Lyla Kennedy (My husband loves unisex names and his dad’s name is Kennedy and my deceased brother’s name is Ashton so we thought we could maybe honor them.) Our last name is Patterson. Thanks -Viki.

Personally find Isla and Lyla way too matchy for twins. Way too rhymey. Not a twin but if I was one I wouldn’t want my name to be so matchy with my sister. I think the middle names are fine.

I think they sound too much alike to use both 1st names. Sorry

Isla and Lyla are too similar. Lyla literally has the same sound as Isla, just with an L added to the beginning. That will be very confusing for the two girls. And especially with them being twins, people will assume you gave them almost the same names because they are a pair of similar girls. Isla and Lyla are too close to both be used as first names, especially for twins. Isla Ashton and Kennedy Lyla or Ashton Isla and Lyla Kennedy would be cute!

OP here, I don’t get why matchy names or names that rhyme will be confusing. Considering the fact that they are siblings and they are a pair what ks wrong with it. As long as the meanings aren’t tacky, names with similar sounds don’t really bother me.

Way way way too similar. Sorry but that just sounds ridiculous. I normally don’t put negative comments, but I feel like I have to for the sake of your girls who will be constantly confused and will wish for names with a little more of their own identity.

Same them aloud. That is your problem. You will get both of them every time.

Guys, Isla and Lyla mean different things, just because they sound close doesn’t mean "oh I don’t have an identity of my own." Really? You guys think similar names will result in an identity crisis? Wow.

I love the names. My daughter’s name is Kennedy so I love that as well.

Isla and Lydia would work, or Lyla and Isabella, but not Isla and Lyla, sorry.

Something tells me you already know you shouldnt do this and that’s why you made the poll...

@poster5
If they will wish for names with a little more of their identity then none of us should be naming our kids now and let them name themselves.names don’t determine their identity. My kids are Calle Harlow and Carlo, they don’t have an identity issue.
I am not a fan of Lyla but I think both sound adorable. Go for it.

The names by themselves aren’t tacky, but together they are.

Twins are a special case. They’re always thought of as a "pair" not as individuals. That’s why it’s even more important in this case to give them two distinct names. The sound of them are so matchy that if you call one, two may come running. Why don’t you use one for a first name and the other for a middle name?

When you call for your girls, that’s where it will be confusing. If you call out "Lyla!", more than likely, both will come running because they have no idea who has been called because their names are so similar. that is what is wrong with them being so similar. And whether or not they mean different things is not what I am worried about. What I would be worried about is the fact that sound VERY similar. They literaly sound exactly the same, one just has an L at the beginning. I have no problem with matchy names like Lilly and Ella(double Ls), Jade and Jazz(both Js), or Scarlett and Juliette(double Ts), but Isla and Lyla are too matchy. I agree that Ashton Isla and Lyla Kennedy would be pretty! You still get to use both names, it will just be less confusing for the poor girls!

I dont mind matchy names with twins (mine start the same with "Br"), but these are tto matchy IMHO.

Isla and Leila would be cute but Isla and Lyla are a NO NO.

I second Isla and Layla, but spelled like this. Or what about Lyla and Iris?

Twins will eventually grow up and lead separate lives unless they are conjoined. I don’t see a problem with the names at all. Isla and Lila I like better.

No, just no.

I love both Isla and Lyla. I think they’re stunning. But they’re way too close for twins.

Kennedy is cute and goes well with Lyla, but I don’t care for Ashton nor do I think it goes with Isla.
