It sounds like a boys name to me but if you like it go for it. At least you are giving her a girls middle name she can always use. I do like this spelling much better than the Layton which to me is all boy.

I love Leighton! It’s not a boy name to me at all. I think it’s gorgeous and elegant-sounding. I adore it. Leighton Nicky or Nicolette would be better. Nicole is yucky and so predictable.
