Acadia Brynn vs. too close to vs. cicada???
Hi everyone!
My husband & I absolutely love this name for a girl. We wanted a name that reflects our ethnic heritage, which happens to be mostly French-Canadian for both of us. Acadia (Uh-CAY-dee-uh) is a region in Canada that encompasses Prince Edward Island (where my fam is from) and New Brunswick, where my husband’s family is from. We currently live in the northeast US, so I had never thought about the name’s similarity to "cicada" a very ugly, loud bug that lives in other parts of the country, until my cousin from IN pointed that out. Is it too close, in case my daughter does live somewhere that these bugs call home? We are planning on calling her Cady most of the time anyway, if that matters. Thanks!

I think its lovely. If the similarity truly bothers you, though, you could try Acacia, and call her Caci.

If I were from Prince Edward Island I think I would just have to name my daughter Anne, Diana, or maybe even Cordelia.:) (I LOVE Anne of Green Gables and loved PEI when we visited there some years ago).
As far as Acadia goes, if it’s going to bother you if people say, "Oh, like the car?" or, "Sounds like cicada!" then don’t do it. However, if these occasional remarks wouldn’t bother you and you really love the idea of naming your daughter after a place you both hail from, then go for it.

What about Charlotte (Charlottetown), Summer (Summerside), or Kensington (I think this would be really cute. You could call her Kensey/Kinsey). What do you think???

I love the idea of Kensington! It’s really different and unique without being weird, and the nn Kinsey is adorable! What about Kensington Acadia?? Or Kensington Charlotte?? What do you think???

Ooooo! Kensington is adorable!!! Kensington Acadia would be really nice, that way you’d at least get to use Acadia as a mn. Her name would have SO much meaning this way! I love it!
