Odessa vs. Stella

Middle Name! We’re having our last child. I’d like to use one of these family names as the middle name if we end up having another girl. We have two older daughters and no sons so I’m just going to assume we’re having a third girl. All have family names as middle names. Odessa is my great grandmothers name, she had no middle name. Stella is my husband’s granny’s name (who raised him). Her middle name is Mae. I kind of like Odessa Mae as an option but we want our children to have their own first names. Our oldest has 2 middle names (same as my husband) and our youngest has 1 (same as me) so if she had two it wouldn’t be abnormal for our family. Sorry to go on like this. Just wanted to lay it all out there. No possible first names at this point.

I like both, but I honestly think it depends on flow with the first name that you choose. If I were you, I’d keep both as options and search for first names at this point. Then, when you have a list of, say, 3-5 first names that you like, pair them with the family name that has the best flow with the first (and last) name, and then pick the combination that calls to you. Odessa is more interesting. These days Stellas are a dime a dozen on the playground.

Odessa for sure. I’d use Odessa Mae myself. Odessa is such a great name, why not put it front and center. It’s still your daughter’s own name too. And she sure won’t be one of several little Odessas on the playground.

Odessa Estelle would be cute if you were interested in changing the name slightly. Odessa mae is pretty as well
