Love it. It’s super sweet, a little bit vintage and blessedly underused. I don’t get the cow reference either. Never heard of the name being used that way.

I’ve heard of Elsie the Cow. But never Betsy.

the cow reference is simply to make you think it a bad name from someone who doesn’t like it and would prefer you use a name from the trendy/boring list when this is a really cute name and (happily) not trendy at all

I think I would do a double-take if I came across the name Betsy, but I don’t think it’s a bad name.

I think the commenters above put it rudely, but there is some basis for their comments about cows. Betsy, Bessie, Bess, Betty, Bonnie, Buttercup, Bluebell, etc. are all extremely stereotypical names for cows. I lived in a rural area growing up and it seems like all of my friends had cows with one of those names. There’s also the two cows from "Charlotte’s Web" Bitsy and Betsy and I’m pretty sure there’s a cow from one of Walt Disney’s older films called Bessie...a stereotype’s a stereotype for a reason.

BUT that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it on people. Betsy is a perfectly good name and there’s no reason not to use it on a girl. Besides, I think Betsy Ross is more important historically than a bunch of cows. It’s a cute name. It does sound a little old-fashioned, but "old-fashioned" and vintage names are making a huge comeback, so who cares? It’s a lot nicer than some of the yooneek, cre8iv names that people are making up these days. I also like it with Louise as a middle name. Good luck :)
