Please vs. Please vs. Help!!!

Hello there! My husband & I are expecting our first child (keeping the sex a surprise) and we are in desperate need for help. Due to a long story that I’m fairly certain none of you care about, we can’t really go to either of our families for help with names. We want something that is unique/uncommon, yet not made up and still be able to age well as our child grows up. I’ve done a bit of "creeping" on this site and found some names from some polls that we are liking: Nava, Zabel, and Cleo for a girl & Lavi, Hazael, Alistair/Alastair & Ezekiel for a boy (sorry for "taking" anyones’ names!). What are your thoughts on those and do you have any other suggestions? Thank you so, SO much! --Katar and Harry

We like Athena, Ophelia, & Iris! You gave so many beautiful suggestions, but unfortunately most of them we’ve heard a bit too often for what we’re looking for. I also am obsessed with the name Zara however the clothing store Zara is fairly popular/well known which kind of is putting my husband off from wanting to use it!

Thank you, guest! To be completely honest with you, those are actually our least favorite from the groups, they seem the most common/well known of the ones we’ve found which is why we’re a bit unsure. However we think they’re also great which is why they’re on the list in the first place! As of right now our favorite girl name is definitely Zabel and we’re still really up in the air for a boy name.

We like Arlo! There are some other really great names you suggested but they’re just a bit too well known/used for us!

If you like Zara and Zabel what about:
Zora
Zelda
Zinnia
Zeile (rhymes with Kylie)
Zelie (rhymes with Hayley)

Zabel is cute but sounds so much like Isabelle which is soooo common I almost feel like it’s boring.
I also like Gaia or Astraea for you. I also knew a girl named Sabre once and always thought it was cool
For boys my first thought was Blaise.

We like Abram, Cedric (liking this a lot!), Dorian, Lavinia, & Althea! I also really liked Cordelia & Elspeth but my husband knows a few Cordelia’s so that was out and he’s only so-so on Elspeth!

I also came across the names Noor & Priya, thoughts on it?

Oh I hate when I’m typing and miss a comment! We are kind of liking Zinnia but not sure if we’re super on board about it or just think it’s something pretty but wouldn’t use, if that makes any sense

I know we originally said we liked Ophelia but now we’re kind of on the fence about it! We think Ophie is a cute nickname and even did some googling and saw Opal as a nickname which we thought was pretty but we’re not sure about the name itself anymore! Has anyone noticed an increase in popularity of the name? The other names on your list just aren’t hitting the mark for us, I’m sorry but we appreciate you suggestions so much!!

I like Priya, very unique and pretty. I don’t think Noor would age well.
Cedric is very handsome.

Girl- Elaria
Boy- Riordan

Elaria has us intrigued! I did some research on it (I’m so weird when it comes to names!) and according to one site it comes from the name Eulalia which I thought was so pretty! What are your thoughts on Eulalia?
posted by Katar & Harry :: 7 years ago | report
Eulalia is pretty, though it’s a bit of a tongue twister. Do you know what you might use as a middle name for it.

We actually almost named our daughter Elaria, but went with Arya instead. Our girls are Arya and Emery and our boys are Ezio and Apollo

We’re looking at honoring someone in our families.
As of now we are considering Lusine (my mother’s name), Dianne (my mother-in-law’s name), Alice (my husband’s grandmother), or Anush (my grandmother’s name) for a girl; all three women have unfortunately left us so it would mean a lot to use one of their names or somehow combine them to honor all of them.
For a boy we’re considering Ari (my grandfather’s name), Aram (my father’s name), Robert (my father-in-law’s name), or William (my husband’s grandfather).

We are liking Ezio!!

Lusine is so pretty!! You could get Aline from combining Alice and Lusine.

I will warn you with Ezio... It’s Italian and people always pronounce it Eh-zee-oh instead of Et-zee-oh. Our son finds it a bit frustrating, but he’s very happy with his name.
