Melissa vs. Melody
I really like the name Melissa for my daughter but everyone tells me that it’s not suitable for a girl in this generation. I’ve gotten Melody as a replacement suggestion but I’m just not sure if I like it as much. Which do you think would be better for a little girl growing up in this day and age? ~Erica

Melissa was one of the most popular girl’s name of the 1970s.I know a lot of Melissas in that age group so to me it feels quite dated.
I think Melody is beautiful though!
It feels much more modern and appropriate for a baby born these days.

They are both beautiful! I’m not sure why someone would balk at Melissa or Melody, but no one blinks an eye and very old-fashioned names like Lydia, Hazel, Hannah, and Emily. Personally, my choice would be Melissa.

Melissa is a bit dated, but it’s still a lovely name. I do like Melody, but I don’t know that its really any more "modern". If you love Melissa, you should use Melissa. Plus, you won’t have to worry about her being "Melissa Insert Initial" throughout school.
