Isla and Ava vs. It’s ok vs. Something else

We have found out we are expecting twin girls- how exciting! Our favourite names for girls are Isla and Ava, however we are worried that they are too matchy for twins. We didn’t pick them because they match, just because we love both names but we’d love to hear what you think! Thank you.

Love Isla and Ava. I don’t think they are too close. If you feel they are too close, Isla and Eve, Isla and Avery, Isla and Aveline, or Isla and Evie would be cute.

I don’t think they are too matchy but I don’t think they really fit very well together. Ava is modern, trendy, childish, and overused. Isla is a little more vintage, a little less common, more elegant, and will age wonderfully. If you are worried about them being too matchy though, maybe use Isla as a first name for one and Ava as the middle name for the other?

Thank you for your suggestions! Where we live Isla and Ava are about the same in popularity so we don’t see that as an issue but thank you for your help- we will keep in mind the middle name idea if people find an issue with the names!

I’m on the fence. Part of me doesn’t see them as too matchy. But when I imagine saying them together...

Would you be open to a variation with Isla or Ava as a nn? For example, Isla and Avalon nn Ava.

They are pretty similar, but doable if you love them. Other ideas:
Isla & Mila
Isla & Carys
Isla & Ierne
Isla & Ruby

Ava & Grace
Ava & Viola
Ava & Daphne
Ava & Mia

I think they are ok. I am normally against anything remotely matchy for twins or siblings, but I find these to be a balance between similar and different which is a good thing. Ava and Isla are both short, similar in popularity, similar in style. But they have different first initials and different middle consonants, so really they are not too close in my mind. Ava and Anna would be too similar, so would Isla and Nala. But Ava and Isla are just right.

Too close for my taste, but I like each name individually. I believe both are in the top 10 in 2016 for popularity so as long as that is not an issue for you, go with what you like!

Isla is uncommon in the U.S., whereas Ava is overused and quite tired. They’re nice names, but i feel Ava is sounding dated because of its overuse. I love Isla, but Ava isn’t terrible.
