If you change the spelling of the name or use a foreign spelling, you will just be causing problems for the child in the long run. They will spend their lives correcting people, what a pain! Also, changing the spelling often makes a good name look unprofessional, juvenile, or silly.

If you’re considering the name Alexander, I prefer Alastor/Alistair, a variant of Alexander.

Keep Alexander. Any other spelling looks ridiculous and if you use a foreign spelling, people will assume it’s for a reason (from your heritage, perhaps). I mean, I plan on naming my son Nikolai but it’s not because it’s from my heritage, it’s because I like the name. However, Aleksander is said the same so it’ll just be annoying for him. Keep Alexander. It’s a great, strong and fantastic name.

I would prefer the normal spelling, but the foreign one is also nice. The weird one is pathetic (sorry). Alexander is the best choice because it automatically registers in our brains like this. Though Aleksander has a better nickname, Alek.

My brother-in-law is very into names and he told me that research has actually shown that people with names spelled different than normal are less educated and more likely to live in poverty. I’d stick to normal names.

Just for the record, I don’t plan on naming any child Alexander. I just want to know what people think and Alexander was the first name that popped into my head.
