Thoughts on vs. Haley Logan

Hi would appreciate your thoughts on the name Haley Logan for our daughter. Logan is my MIL name and my husband really wants to use it and possibly call her that but Logan is primarily a boys name. If we want to call her Logan should we just name her Logan? We could call her Logan until if she wants she can go by Haley. Also doesn’t it seem like we wanted a boy by naming her Logan or her middle name being Logan? Older sisters are Skyler and Reese. Thank you -Jordana

I think its nice, Haley is very feminine, and Logan is masculine, but that’s ok since its in the middle name spot. If you want to call her Logan, go for it, but I would keep Haley as her first name.

I think if you are going to all call her Logan you should use it as a first name though it wouldn’t be my personal choice of name. And really who cares what strangers think. If you and your daughters know the truth then their opinions are insignificant and really meaningless.

Haley is lovely. I don’t really love Logan but I get the family significance.
Personally I think that if you’re going to call her Logan then that should be her first name. Just seems strange to me to plan to call someone by their middle name - just make it their first.

I think it seems a little like you had a 3rd daughter, felt like you’d never have a boy, so used Logan on her to make up for it. But I don’t think she’ll feel that. Logan is quite masculine, and if it were just her middle name then that would be fine, but since that’s what you’ll be calling her most of the time it gets a bit more complicated as she’ll be going by quite a masculine name. On official paper it would be fine - but in discussion, in the playground etc. She’d still be using a masculine name - and a very popular masculine name at that.

I would call her Haley. Use that as her first name and actually call her that most of the time. It fits well with her sisters and even if you don’t call her Logan you MIL is still honoured by having the middle name after her.

Call her Logan if you want to call her that. Be prepared for boys to turn their heads too. Logan is a very popular boy name. Rather tacky and classless for parents to take a boy name and smack it on a girl.
IMHO
Good luck

Logan is the 14th most popular boy name in America. So that’s something to keep in mind.

If we call her Haley would it still seem like we wanted a boy for her middle name to be Logan? -Jordana

No, middle names are mostly used for honouring people or using a name you love but didn’t think would work for a first name. Logan fits that spot perfectly. Haley Logan sounds like a girl with an honour middle name.

I don’t understand the concern for people thinking you wanted a boy. If they think that with Logan, they have already thought that with Skyler and Reese. Logan isn’t my style but it certainly fits in with their names.

Skyler and Reese are both unisex names, both more common on girls (Reese is actually so much more common on girls some people would say it’s a girls name now). In terms of popularity Skyler is 285 for girls and 361 for boys, which makes it one of the most unisex names out there in terms of roughly equal usage. Reese is 173 for girls but 701 for boys - that’s a big gender balance for girls.
Logan is 394 for girls and 14 for boys. So, it is just about unisex (like Reese), but the balance is on the boys side unlike Reese and Skyler, and it’s just SO common on boys.

All that being said. If you want to name her Logan, sure why not? I actually prefer Haley more for any gender, so I’d use Haley over Logan even if you were having a boy. But if you both really love Logan, I’m sure she’d cope. I do think that if you’re going to call her Logan you should make it her first name though. Bit weird making it the middle name if that’s what you’re going to call her.
