Cousins vs. Elise vs. Elisabeth
Is Elisabeth out as a first name option if my daughter’s cousin is already name Elise? I already eliminated Annelise because that seemed too close, but I keep going back to Elisabeth (this spelling has significance as well).
What are your thoughts? Is is only useable in a middle spot?

I don’t think they’re too close. You can always call her by a nickname (Beth, Libby, Lizzy) that isn’t similar if you’re that worried.

No you can use it still. Maybe talk to your sister (in law? Elise’s mom) and see what she thinks.

They aren’t identical names. My extended family includes girls named Carrie, Cara and Caroline. All are first cousins. I think you’re OK. In fact, I’d still consider Annelise, your first choice. I guess you could mention it to Elise’s parents, if that is a concern. Not asking permission. Just to see how it would be received.

They are identical names to me. But if (1) they honor and (2) the cousins go by different nicknames, then I think it’s fine. :0)
