Faith vs. Yes vs. No

Hi everyone! I’m having a little girl in late November. I’ve been having a hard time finding a name and the one that I keep going back to is Faith. My one setback is that I don’t believe in God and I’m not religious at all. Do you think I can still name my daughter Faith, or would it just be weird?

Faith is a good name, regardless of whether or not you’re religious. I say use it if you like it enough.

I don’t see why not...maybe I’m not the best person to ask because if I absolutely had to label myself, I’d call myself agnostic, but I don’t think that believers in God hold the monopoly on faith. While I do wish I could have faith in God and an afterlife, I simply can’t make myself believe in it. That being said, this doesn’t mean I don’t have faith. I have faith in my family and in my good friends. I have faith that even with all of the terrible things that happen every day around the world, that there are still good people helping out. I have faith that I can help kids who’ve suffered abuse and neglect through art therapy and with programs with therapy animals. I have faith that someday some brilliant scientists will discover cures for each type of cancer and maybe even find out how to prevent Alzheimer’s. Simply put, I have faith in people’s goodness and perseverance and I have faith in myself. If any of those apply to you, then you have faith to. No reason why you can’t use the name!

Faith isn’t my cup of tea as a name. But if it’s the one that has grown roots in your heart then you should use it, by all means. Being religious is not a prerequisite for using a name. Good luck! :0)

The Puritan Christians were the ones who started calling their daughters Faith as a name.
