Is Kai vs. Too Popular?

After having 2 girls India Soleil and Delilah Clarke my husband and I are finally having a boy. We love the name Kai but are wondering how popular it really is? How many Kai’s do you know? Lastly what middle name do you prefer Linden or Adler? Thank you - Sam, Lyra, Indi and Lila

I don’t know anyone named Kai. There’s a Kai Risdal (not sure of spelling) on NPR. I know a Malachi who occasionally goes by Kai. My concern with Kai is not the supposed popularity, but rather the long I sound it shares with Delilah. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s a point against using Kai.

Kai Adler. I don’t think it’s that popular.

Never met a Kai. Do you live in the US? Because according to the Social Security Association website, Kai has had a rise in popularity but it’s never gotten into the top 100, it was ranked 145 in 2015(and that was when it was the most popular) but I still don’t think it’s all that common. If you love Kai then use it. And I don’t really see the problem with the long I sounds in both Kai and Delilah. They both sound totally different depsite that I sound. Kai Linden gets my vote.

I’ve only met one, and it was actually his middle name but it’s what he went by. It’s very handsome and not too popular at all. Best of luck!

It’s currently at #145 on the US charts for boys and rising, but no where close to top 20 or anything like that
