Luna vs. Yes vs. No

My boyfriend keeps pushing for the name Luna. I am on the fence about it. The meaning is beautiful but the look and sound remind me of tuna. Plus it’s really popular and trendy which I really don’t like. How does everyone else feel about the name Luna?

I think Luna is beautiful, but if you’d like another moon related name then possibly Selena is a name you could go for!

I personally love Luna but if you don’t like it then look for something else. Or maybe as a middle name?

I’ve never been a fan of Luna either for the exact same reason. I do like Oona even though it could still rhyme with tuna. It’s a very "aristocratic" name.

I do like Luna - the meaning is lovely and it’s a sweet name. I hadn’t thought of the tuna connection but now you mention it...
I’ve never personally met a Luna, but if your concerned about popularity and think it’s trendy, it might not be the one for you. Mina is similar in terms of letters and feel imo and Estella or Estella has a kind of similar meaning.

Thanks for all the ideas, I would love it as a middle name for Eva, Athena, Freya, Primrose, or Clara. I could also see us compromising on Lucianna nn Luna or Luna nn Oona/Una. I don’t feel so stifled by Luna anymore.

I also really like Mina but I’m not sure if my boyfriend would completely drop Luna. Luzmina and Lumina could work? I’ve never heard of those before though. Thank you!

Love Lumina nn Luna! Like LUmiNA? That could also work for the Roman name Lucina!

Cynthia and Diana also have ties to the moon.Luna is gorgeous but only use it if you love it.

Luna is stunning to me and I actually have only ever met 1 Luna, but I do know it is still high on popular charts. If you aren’t sure about it but he loves it, maybe it can be used as a middle name instead of a first name?

I personally love Luna and never thought about tuna until you mentioned it. My only drawback with Luna is how popular it’s getting.

Luna makes me think of all the words related to it that are unflattering: lunatic and lunacy, for example. Is it the sound or the meaning that your boyfriend likes so much? If it’s the meaning, Cynthia, Selena, and Diana are options.
