Names vs. Vs vs. The meaning

I like names like May, April and even January. Does not being born on said month make the name awkward? My uncle made fun of a girl named May who was born in June...My second question is about the more normal names I am considering. Do you think meanings really matter? For example Bianca means white and Natalie means born on Christmas. Should the meaning affect using the name?

Meanings are cool, but I don’t necessarily think they should affect the use of a name. I think April, May, etc. can be used regardless of the month a girl was born in, and that someone does not need to be born on Christmas Day in order to be named Natalie.

I think month names are more identifiable because they’re the actual words they mean. Yes, Natalie may mean "born on Christmas" but most aren’t necessarily going to think of the meaning. It’s kinda hard to hide the "meanings" of month names. For example, the name April is much more likely to make people think of the month than Natalie would be to make people think of Christmas. That being said, I don’t think it is a huge issue, but I’ve never been a fan of month names as first names.

To me, it does sound sorta weird if you’re born in June but named May, but for names like Bianca and Natalie it would be fine. When will you’re daughter be born? If it’s in a name-able month, you can name her that. I do like Natalie, though.

my sisters name is January my parents were going to use it regardless of she was born in january which she ended up being born in january. My parents however thought it would be cute to continue the month trend my name is November it’s not even a real name!!! i’ve always hated my name especially cause i’m born in november

My sons name is August and he was born in October. I don’t find it weird. I’ve always loved the name and most say it fits him and everyday people won’t even know when the child’s birthday is so I don’t think you need to worry about the month connection.

I don’t think meanings should mean anything either. When they were given the meanings it was in a time long before now and meanings change with society as words and ideas change. It’s all depends on how you look at it.

No meanings do not matter and often names have various meanings. Regardless, they don’t matter. Also month names are better imo when they child is NOT actually born on that month. If you name someone June who was born in June, it just seems kind of thrown together and like the parents were being lazy, like.."eh, might as well." Also seems a [removed]eesy to name someone after the month they’re born.

I never really thought of it that way at all,it’s funny.I have a childhood friend named Mae (you could spell your daughter’s name that way rather than the traditional way if you want to distance it from the actual "month" and see it as a name first.) She was born in August, but I never even thought of that honestly,Mae is her name and fits her,it’s beautiful. If I was going to use a month name I think I would make sure it wasn’t the same month she was born in though. April and May are very commonly used and known as names,or even August for a boy.Or Summer or Autumn too, they are beautiful. I don’t think I would name my daughter after the month she was born though,I would probably let the name stand on it’s own. Congrats!

I don’t generally like word names, so that eliminates month names for me. Ones like April, May, and June, and August are more common though and wouldn’t automatically make me wonder when the child’s birthday was.
Meanings are somewhat important, but I think associations are much more important (like I wouldn’t use Madonna, Beyonce, Nala, Ariel, etc). I wouldn’t worry in the least about Bianca or Natalie. I’d probably avoid Ivory though.
