My husband wants to use Allen as our son’s middle name, since it is the name of his late brother. However, its also my ex-husbands name. I have a child from that marriage and she sees him often. Usable or unusable?

A little tricky but probably usable, under the circumstances as a middle name. Do you have a cordial relationship with your ex? That would certainly help.

Ooh, that’s tricky. Any chance of using your husband’s brother’s MN instead? Though, I guess if your husband is aware of the connection to your ex and is ok with it, that’s a point in favor of using it.

My husband is aware of the connection, he doesn’t love it, but he still wants to use the name since it is his brother’s name. My ex and I have a semi-amicable relationship. thanks for feedback so far! -poster

If you and your current husband are comfortable using Allen in the middle, by all means use it. We don’t use our middle names very much in real life and your family will know the actual person who is honored with the name. Good luck!
