Every other guy I met in college was Matt. In my opinion it’s a bit too common, but it just depends on your naming style. It’s not bad name at all, it’s just that he will probably be referred to as Matt S. (or whatever your last name initial is) in all of his classes.

Great, but I think Matt is a not so flattering nickname to such a beautiful name. I know its hard, because people seem to assume all Matthews go by Matt, but I really like the full name

Matthew is a lovely traditional name, yes, you will probably have more than one in the class but that might happen with any name you choose! Stick with it if you like it!
