Devon James vs. Devin James vs. Devan James

We have had Devon James at the top of our list for our baby boy since before I was pregnant with him. I was helping on another poll earlier and noticed a couple of posters commenting as to whether Devin and Devon were the same name since they both have different meanings. Another poster pointed out that Devon was a variant spelling of Devonne duh-von but it was also a variant spelling of dev-in. I looked it up and she was right. Do you think we should go with another spelling to avoid confusion with the pronunciation? We prefer the spelling Devon but we also don't want our son to have to correct people through out his life. Which spelling would you choose? Thanks!

I don't think the spelling and pronounciation is that big of a deal. I think it will still be pronounced de-vin

I went to school with a girl named Devon pronounced duh-von but I also know a couple of males named Devon pronounced dev-in so I can see how that could be an issue. I would spell it Devin if it were my son to avoid any confusion whatsoever. GL

I have known several people named Devon. All pronounced Dev in. I prefer the Devon spelling. I don't think it will be that big of problem.

It IS pronounced like Dev-in. My 24 year-old nephew is named Devon Jordan and he has never had to correct anyone. Almost like Evan, but add the D.

^If you google the name Devon the first thing that comes up is that it's a varient spelling for Devonne duh-von. My nephew spells it Devon and he gets called duh-von often. Devin gmv. GL

I have known 7-8 Devon's through daycare, and it has always been pronounced as DEHV-ahN and never duh-von. If you google it, you will also see it is pronounced as the other versions in different countries. But, in USA english is it DEHV-ahN.
