Mary vs. Elizabeth

We really want to honor our grandmothers in naming our daughter. The grandmothers names are Mary and Elizabeth. We like both names, but don’t want to call our daughter Mary Reid or Elizabeth Reid. We like the way Mary-Elizabeth sounds and think it would be a great first or middle name, but we don’t know what to use in combination with it. Any suggestions? We like classic names, by the way. Thanks.

What about calling her Ella, Ellie, Lizzy, Libby, Eliza, Liza, etc. short for Elizabeth? Or you could name d call her Mary Ella or Emmy (intials M.E.). What do you think???

I think MaryBeth is lovely.

Emmy or Emmie would be a cute nn for Mary Elizabeth (using the intials M.E.). I also like the pp’s suggestion of Mary Ella, that’s really pretty! And there are tons of nn’s for Elizabeth! I would go with Mary Elizabeth Reid and give her her own nickname! Mary Elizabeth is beautiful and classy, and it will stick out among all the Sophias, Olivias, and Lilys!!

I like the suggestion of Kathryn Mary-Elizabeth Reid. You can pull alot of nns out of those names and still keep her formal name a classic.
