traditional vs. ’Americanized’

Would you use a traditional spelling of a name from your country or background if everyone tells you that the kid will have trouble spelling it or that everyone would mispronounce it? (For example, if you were Scandinavian living in the US, would you name your son Mihkel or Michael?)

I would go with the name that represents your background/country. I knew a boy named Vivbhar--everyone called him Viv(pronounced Veev)

It’s tough. I think that it depends on the name and it’s origin.
I LOVE celtic/gaelic names. Some of the spellings are way too unpronouncable in the US.
Ex: Saoirse is pn Sheer-sha....
I think that Mihkel would be ok. People could figure that out easily.
