Elizabeth Bennett vs. Jane Eyre vs. Gwendolyn Harleth

So I just found out I am having a girl and I wanted to name her something really meaningful. I love to read, and so I figured I’d name her after one of my favorite characters. She has an older brother (Austen James --Jane Austen and Henry James which are two of my favorite authors ever). I need some help.

I love literary names too! I like what you did with your son’s names- how you combined two authors. I think that would be neat to do here too. I’ve always thought Bronte would be a neat middle name!

If you like Gone With the Wind, Scarlett would be a good choice too :)

I love literary names. But I think you should combine some of the names in order to make a new one, that way your daugther will have her own name that’s still meningful to you. Pretty much like you did for your son.

Elizabeth Jane
Jane Elizabeth
Elizabeth Bronte
Emma Bronte
are just a few you could use

I love Bronte. I wanted to name her Bennett Bronte but my husband nixed it. So Bronte for a middle name is great. What about for a first name? Does Bronte work for a first name? Bronte Elizabeth? Or Elizabeth Bronte? Or Charlotte? Or Mariah (for Mariah Lapidoth from George Eliots Daniel Deronda) Bronte? Bronte Mariah?

I think Elizabeth Bronte is really cute!
I also like Elinor Bronte or Bronte Elinor (from Sense and Sensibility).
Bronte and Austen would be a cute sib pair!

Elizabeth Bronte/Bronte Elizabeth is really sweet, too! GL!

I know a little girl named Bronte.
I think Bronte would be a great choice because then other readers would recognize your son’s name as a literary reference.

Otherwise, I have to give the nod to Elizabeth-my favorite of the heroines you mentioned.

I am glad you’re not a Mansfield Park fan.
Fanny doesn’t do much for me!

Good Luck!

Fanny is definitely not my favorite. And after talking with my husband we decided on Bronte Elizabeth Foster. Thank you all so much for your help!
