Anders vs. Sawyer

We’re expecting our second son and are willing to go a little farther out of the box for names. We do have a (long) hyphenated surname, so with that in mind, what do you think of these? Thanks!!

Love Anders. Very cool name! What is your first son’s name?

I prefer Sawyer to Anders but love Anderson.

Long names aren’t so bad.

I really really really dislike Anders but I love Sawyer and Anderson! Anders almost sounds girly to me, and very very European. It also sounds kind of snooty to me, which I know sounds terrible. Sawyer reminds me of literature and Mark Twain, I would DEFINITELY go with that one! GL!!

Definitely Sawyer. Anders is just incomplete. Perhaps Sanders?

A long first name is okay, I think, since your last name is broken up by a hyphen. Personally, I love longer names. My kids are Jeremiah Sebastian, Sullivan Alexander and Abraham Giovanni. Our last name is also 8 letters long and 3 syllables but... I love them! I think they’re classy.

How about Sawyer as a first name and Anders for middle? Then his initials could be SAHM. How cool!

given your long last name.. i think anders sounds smoother.. gives a more solid start to the series. =)

From my mom:

I voted for Sawyer -- it’s a good strong name!

They’re both great names. But I like Anders. It sounds very Swiss and masculine to me. When you hear Anders, you don’t know if you will be meeting a research scientist (a good thing) or a mountaineer; but either way, you won’t be disappointed.
