Kaviana Quinn vs. Lucy Kaviana vs. Kaviana Louise
We are adopting a baby whose mother named her Kaviana. We’re not sure whether to keep it as her first name and give her a new middle name, or rename her first name and make Kaviana her middle name. Any suggestions?

If she is less than a year old, I’d move it to the middle name (unless you love the name) and then I’d call her both (Lucy Kaviana) for a while, slowly ceasing to add the second name.

I agree. If she is still an infant, then I’d change it to her middle name.....so you are keeping a tie to her time before you and can use that in talking to her about that time....but you are giving her a new name for her new life.

I would probably change her name if she were young enough. I love Lucy! That way she has something from her birth mother, yet you chose what to call her. Then if you choose to adopt other children, you can "match" their names to a name you like/chose (Lucy) rather than Kaviana.

i would be careful of the name kaviana, it is difficult to pronounce, that is why i like the name lucy as the first name and kaviana as the middle name
