Hey, all. My husband and I seem to have ourselves in a bit of a pickle. We found out last week that we are having a little girl, and my husband came to me shortly after and said that he has always loved the name Lydia and asked me what I thought. I think it’s a perfectly lovely name, but I have always been a HUGE Pride and Prejudice fan. If you’ve read the novel/seen the movie, you see my problem. If not, the short version is that there’s a character in P&P named Lydia, and she’s the last person in that book you’d want to name your child after. I thought about it for a while, and finally had to tell my husband that I can’t look past it. He was very understanding, but now we’re back to square one. Could you all please suggest names that are similar in style to Lydia? Hubby says what he likes about it is the breezy, vintage sort of style. Thank you all so much! --Erin and Zach

Hello, please help us eliminate names from our list. We would like a traditional Greek name. She will be called by her English nickname at school, but we still want her proper name to be traditional. I will post a list of names in the first comment with their respective English nicknames. Thanks!

My partner and I both have A names so when we had our puppy we thought it was cute to give him an a name. Now we are pregnant with our first baby and I joked about giving him/her an A name and after looking through books and websites, I have found that we love so many A-names. Now my question is.. Do you think Atlas is an acceptable name for a baby boy? Your opinion is much appreciated!

Just Effie/Effy or would you use a longer name and use Effie/y as nickname? Also which spelling do you prefer?

I love the simplified name Kate, but I am looking for a longer version. (Ex: Katherine) I don’t like names that are common, so I would appreciate only unique names! Thanks so much!

Our first son is James Alexander. Alexander is my father in-law’s name. We have decided to name our second son Oliver. Benjamin is my father’s name, and I would love to give our second boy my father’s name as a middle name. The problem is that I have an ex boyfriend named Ben (Benjamin) so my husband is uncomfortable giving our son a middle name that is the same as my ex-boyfriend’s name. My father doesn’t have a middle name or we would probably use that instead. Thoughts? Would you be uncomfortable if your child had the same middle name as one of your ex’s? Suggestions?

I’m 26 weeks pregnant with twin boys and are considering these names but would like to know what you think. We have two older boys named Collin James and Gabriel (Gabe) Taylor. Do you think these names flow well with their big brothers? Thanks! Erin

I was set on Rhett Thomas for a very long time, as Thomas is my grandpa’s middle name, but Thomas is also the name of someone in my husband’s family who we feel very strongly about NOT naming our son after.. So I don’t want to spend the rest of his life explaining who he is actually named after (or causing problems with that side of the family). Unfortunately that puts us at a total loss! What are some good middle names for Rhett? Also, what do you think of the name Rhett?
