I prefer Alice as is.It's not that long and it's so lovely it really doesn't need a nickname and I think if people hear Ally they are most likely to assume her full name is Allison.

Your question really does not make sense. It seems you are going to use Alice as the standalone name. Do keep in mind SHE may decide she wants a nickname. I know about 4 or 5 Alices. They all have different nicknames. Only one goes by Alice, which she is 73. One goes by Lissy, one goes by AJ (Alice Joanna), one has gone by Al since the day she was born, and one started going by Allie when she entered second grade. That one was her friend's idea.

I don't dislike the idea of a nn for Alice. My grandmother went by Alsie. I just don't think you can control it. She'll have a life of her own by school age, nickname-wise. My brother to this day goes by Peter within the family, but Pete to the world. Good luck! :0)
