Margaret vs. Megan
Hi, everyone. I'm in love with the nickname "Meg" and want to find a full name. I've always thought that Margaret was a beautiful name. However, it can be shortened to Maggie, my parent's dog's name. Do you think that would be a problem? I've also always liked Megan, but it's Welsh. I don't have a Welsh bone in my body, and I don't want to appropriate. So, which full name should I use for my daughter?
The Top Baby Name is...

Megan or Margaret will be fine for the full name. Just call her Meg or Meggie from the start.

I prefer the Meghan spelling but either way Margaret would have gotten my vote. I know many Megan's and it has never crossed my mind to wonder if they are Welsh or not.

Megan/Meghan is fine. So is Margaret, but Meg is more natural for Megan.

I like Megan better. Agreed that many many Megans are not welsh including I'm positive most if not all I've known. Megan works better for Meg as well.

Megan was very popular for a spell in the '90s. It's common enough by now, you wouldn't be appropriating. I also think Megan makes more sense if you want the nickname to be Meg. Megan also sounds fresher than Margaret if that matters to you.
