Using Lenny vs. for girl or boy vs. change spelling?

Hoping to name my husband and my last child after my grandfather, Lenny (technically Leonard, but was always Lenny). I'd prefer if their first name was just Lenny for a girl or boy, but wondering if we should change the spelling for a girl or maybe a girl needs a fuller name with nickname Lenny. Let me know your thoughts. We're also looking for middle name suggestions, something different/unusual or even international (we live in the US). Thank you greatly. Little Lenny joins big brothers Clark Rueben + Gus Orion and big sister to be Monroe Viviana (Roe).

Lenny is so cute. I'm thinking you stick with the same spelling for either a boy or a girl because that will honor your grandfather best. However, if you wanted a different spelling for a girl, I like Leni.

Now on to the full name discussion. I'm not usually one that would suggest giving a child a full name, especially since you plan on calling her Lenny. However, since big sister does have a full name and is called by a nickname, I do think a fuller name with the nickname Lenny would look nice paired with her sister's name. But it is up to you. It probably doesn't matter in the long run, but it does give her other options besides just Lenny. With Monroe, Lennon (Lenny) would be super darling.

Other fuller names:

Linnea
Lennox
Elena
Milena
Eleanor
Leonie
Magdalen
Gwendolen
Lenaya

Good luck!

I'd use Lenny / Lenni (m / f) as nns. Like your grandfather they deserve a full name, especially a daughter here. Eleanor comes to mind first, but Eleni ("eh-LENN-ee") is a variant of Helen that seems tailor made. Eleanor Saffron, Eleni Promise? Good luck! :0)

Hi Mak! Thank you for your thoughts. I quite like the spelling Leni for a girl, but like you said, maybe keeping Lenny would be best. Originally, that was my thought too to have a fuller name for a girl, have been second guessing it. I want the child to be called Lenny either way and worried that a fuller name that offers more options (i.e., Eleanor) would cause her and maybe others to call her by something else. I know that she can decide whatever when she's older, of course, but wanted a little control of it while she's young. With that being said, I do like Lennon, Leonie and Linnea. Lenny seems like the only legitimate nickname option. Thank you.

Hi FredaCat! I appreciate your thoughts too. Planning to keep Lenny as is for a boy (don't like any options that we've seen), but definitely open for fuller options for a girl. Eleni is kind of nice, but would she want to be called Elle, rather than Lenny? Quite like Saffron as a middle name though! Thank you.

Maybe Linny or Lindsay for a girl?

Hi Guest, thank you for the suggestions, but not huge fans of Lindsay and Linny. Linny seems to be taking away from the name honor we want.

If you're looking for more options, I would add Lenore or Lenora nn Lenny for girls and Leon nn Lenny for a boy. Love the name Lenny as well but having been someone that has a similar name that sounds like a nickname, as an adult, I value having options for my professional name. Just food for thought.

Lenore, Leonora, Eleanor, Leanora

Hi Guest! Thank you for your personal connection of having a nickname for your first name. That does help. Lenora is not bad at all. Not a fan of Leon though. We went through a lot of fuller names for boys, but never saw anything we loved as much as just Lenny.

Hi guest, thank you for the suggestions. I do like Eleanor, but it offers other nickname options that would likely get chosen over Lenny. That's something we're trying to avoid.

I know a girl names Leonora who goes by Lennie

Lenny, Lennie, Leni, Lenni - all of these spellings would be fine.
Lenore might be your best option if looking to avoid other nicknames taking root. Lenora is pretty but would offer Nora as a nn possibility whereas that would be less likely with Lenore.

I like Lenore nn Lenny

I think Lenori would be really nice! I have been in love with the name for a while. Just thought I'd mention it 😇

Leonie is beautiful. Actually, you wouldn't even need a nn because Leonie sounds almost exact to Lenny. But you could do Lenni if u wanted to
