Ariel vs. Arielle

I do pronounce both slightly different, for Ariel we say AIR-ee-ul, for Arielle we say AR-ee-elle. Which do you prefer? Her middle name is still undecided. Thanks.

I KNOW since the little mermaid this has flipped, but I still see Ariel as more of a boy's name. If you look at stats its usage as a girl's name is going down (because it's been a while since the movie) but as a boy name it's holding steady, there are still more girls named that right now but it's getting closer.

Anyway that's why I voted Arielle. I prefer Arielle or Ariella for a girl. Also think it sounds better that way :)

I agree with above commenter. But I don't agree with posters pronunciations. Knowing a male Ariel, he says it AR-ee-ell and the Arielle I know is a girl and says it Air-ee-ell.

I agree with some of what is posted above. I find Arielle to be much more feminine than the Ariel spelling. On paper if I saw Ariel I would initially think girl but then maybe question myself where Arielle is definite girl imo.
I also prefer the Ar-ee-el pronunciation that you are going for

Don't know what source you're using but checking the baby name SSA Ariel is way more popular for girls and always has been next to the boy numbers. Sorry but if something is way more popular for girls, it's okay to call it a girls name. Ariel for a boy is never going to be the case over Ariel for a girl

It depends on what type of population you live in. For Hispanics and Jewish people Ariel is a man's name.

Even though I love the Little Mermaid, Arielle looks and sounds prettier and more feminine to me than Ariel.
