I like Merritt with the double letters. It also made me think of a name that I have always loved, Merith. Figured I'd put it out there as an alternative if Merit/Merrit/Merritt doesn't have a clear decision.

Or Merryn? I like Merith and Merit, but wouldn't use Merritt, it comes across as masculine (maybe because I know a couple men with this last name.) Good luck!

Merritt is a a nice girls name. One of the Robertson girls has it for a middle name

Marit is a legit girl's name, so is Maret, would definately use one of these spellings rather than the comon noun with or without doubled letters.
