Stellan vs. Too feminine vs. It's fine for a boy
Hi! So, I'm Scandinavian and I've always loved the name Stellan for a boy. A very famous Scandinavian actor who's had Western success is Stellan Skarsgård. I've never had an issue with it and we'd planned on naming our son Stellan Theodore, but my MIL said the name sounds "too girly". It's historically a boys name and I've been raised on it being strictly masculine, so I can't even imagine it on a girl, but I wonder, is she right?

I think she might feel that way because of the similarity to Stella but I think it is fine to use for a boy.

Behind the name, says masculine too.
I have trouble picturing it on a girl.

Sounds like a meddling MIL. It's a boys name. She gets no say in your kid's name.

I think it might be because of the name Stella, but Stellan is all boy to me. I love it too, and Stellan Theodore is so handsome! Name your sweet boy whatever you want. Good luck.

I love Stellan. I think the MIL is unfamiliar with the name that's all. Your baby , your choice

I think that's her way of telling you she doesn't like the name. I never told my family any of the names we were considering for this exact reason.

Tbh I know it's a masculine name but with the popularity of Stella for a girl I just couldnt do it. I don't imagine it on a girl but the similarity of a very popularity girl name with a not popular boy name sways me off it. But if you like it you've got no reason to not use it

That's ridiculous. As is the idea that a name sounding feminine will somehow emasculate a boy. I'm American and I know that Stellan is a boy's name. I don't think people will expect that name to be worn by a girl unless they misread it.
