Drew vs. Andrew
I LOVE the name Drew for a boy but can it stand on its own? I have a "formal" long name but go by a nickname and I like it so I don't know if I should do that for my son as well. Andrew is nice to me too but really my heart is with Drew and he will be that 99.8% of the time anyway if we pick Andrew. He'll probably only be strictly Andrew if he ever chooses that he doesn't like Drew. So, what would you pick? The short Drew or Andrew with nickname Drew?
The Top Baby Name is...

I'd like the possibility that your child can choose between the formal name and the nickname.

Drew works on it's own, just like Liam vs William.

You just answered the question, imo, when you said "if he ever chooses that". As Andrew nn Drew, he has the choice. As just Drew, he doesn't. Go with the option that gives him more choices.
He might also choose to be Andrew for professional situations and Drew for personal ones. My grandfather did that.

Go with what you like! His name will just be Drew, that's all he will know, so its not like hes gonna be sitting around thinking, "oh man I wish my name was Andrew so I could go by Andy or Andrew." Or whatever. I'm naming my daughter Josie. Not Josephine, or Josette, just Josie. Cause thats what I like. I don't like the longer versions. I just like Josie. And I think it's pointless to name my kid something I'm new going to call her, and will only ever be on paperwork. Name him Drew.

Do you have a middle name selected? That was what helped me choose between a longer and shorter version of my daughter's name. One flowed better with the middle name we chose and that settled it. :) Good luck!
