Eilidh vs. Ailey vs. Ailee
This name was decided before we even conceived, now we know we are having a girl this is her name. One thing that has always stumped us however is how to spell it. My husband is Scottish so to him the correct way to spell it is the tradional way, Eilidh. I am from NYC and our daughter will also live and grow in NYC this makes me think this may be a good reason to spell it different. I can see Eilidh causing a lot of confusion, my husband agrees but says people will likely learn. What are your views, do we stick with the tradional spelling of Eilidh, or go with Ailey or Ailee to make it a little easier? We've already considered Aylee, Aylie, Aileigh, etc and decided that Ailey and Ailee are the nicest looking options. Thank you so much🎀

Aylie is the best imo because Ailey, to me looks like you accidentely mispelled Alley, like as in an alley way.

Voted Ailee from the options, but Aylie is most beautiful and will get the correct pronounciation 100% of the time! My daughter Ayla is nn Aylie and thats how we and everybody else spells it. Beautiful name!
Aylee/Ailee would be second pick, but still they just look weird.
Ailey and Ayleigh/Aileigh just look silly and trying hard to be cr8tive.
Eilidh, though a real spelling, I am from the US and I would NEVER know how to pronounce this at all. I wouldnt even try to pronounce it. It looks so jumbled. Honestly, I see it pronounced with that spelling as eyelid. I would save spellings like that for whatever their intended culture is and more importantly if you live in that part of the world where people know how to read that.

I vote for Aylie or even Ayley.
Eilidh or Ailee.
Honestly more people will be more likely to ask the correct way to pronounce Eilidh and then be more likely to get it right after the first time. They will probably just read the other 'easier' and less ethnic looking names however they want and be more likely to always get it wrong indefinitely.
Ailey looks like it will be more likely to be mispronounced Ale-ee

I disagree with the other guest pushing Aylie. To me it just looks like a made up nickname and I wouldn't be sure how to correctly pronounce that. Hard A? Aye? Eye? Ail?

Sorry but living in NYC I would try to pick the simplest spelling. I'd imagine it would be an absolute headache. People are going to get confused by a name with a silent D in it. I didn't even know how to say it until I looked at the other options. Listen, I'm all for honoring the culture, and props to you for if you stick with Eilidh! I'm just saying I feel like it could take a lot of hassle off of her to spell it maybe Ailee. In Scotland it could work but she's going to be living in America, in one of the biggest American cities, it will get to be a headache.

People need to learn. Like the people on this poll saying it's not pronounced how it's spelled (it is in other languages. It's spelled like it's said). They need to be educated. Please use traditional spellings. People need to adjust.

I would keep the traditional spelling. Yes, people will constantly mispronounce it and that'll be a pain, but they'll likely mispronounce the other options too, and the name will have lost its tradition and prettiness and just look like a weird made up name.

I think Ailee is the best spelling. Spare her the constant agony of correcting her name all the time.
I know that people are supporting the traditional way of spelling it, but it's what is best for her that should be foremost.

I'd prefer Ailee over any other spellings. But there's gonna be people mispronouncing any uncommon name with many ways of pronouncing the vowel combos and if you want to go with Eilidh then you might as well

Eilidh with the original spelling is beautiful, and to me has a completely different feel to any of the Anglicised versions. In a city as diverse as NYC, there will be lots of unusual names/ names from other cultures, so while people may need to check the pronunciation/ spelling once, I would imagine they'd pick it up pretty quickly.
