Scottie just doesn't come from Scarlett. I only ever knew one girl names Scarlett and she was always known as Scar or Lettie. Scarlett is a lovely name but Scottie is a boys name and a breed of dog so if you love Scarlett I would opt for a cuter nickname personally - I'm not keen on Scar but Lettie is lovely. You could just nickname her red - now that's cool 😎

I think it's ADORABLE however I firmly stand in the camp of not getting attached to nicknames (especially ones that are a little out there!) Before your child is born and letting your child's personality and personal choice when they're older determine their nickname. For example if I had a daughter named Scarlett and she decided she didn't like Lettie but wanted to be called Scottie, more power to her! But if you're set on calling her Scottie and she dislikes it, you WILL have to let go of it. It's not worth sacrificing your relationship with your daughter over a nickname you like and she doesn't. That is a very big deal to kids and for good reason. Their name is their identity! Nicknames don't have to be direct derivatives from the root name. My cousin Michael hates the nn Mike. He goes by Mack. My younger sister played shortstop through her whole softball career and most people including in the family and now at her job call her Shorty which has nothing to do with her name Jacqueline. Nicknames come from everywhere. You can have little affectionate family-only nicknames and if you like Scottie then go for it! But be open to rejection from your daughter when she's old enough to have an opinion on what she's called. You're naming a person, not a pet. She won't be a baby forever.

My daughter Scarlett goes by Carly. I like Scottie . It's cute. If you can call a girl Stevie then Scottie is a stretch .
