Alfred vs. Just use Alfie
I really love the name Alfie for a boy but I am always seeing people say that it's better to use a full name over a nickname. The only name I can think of that Alfie could be short for is Alfred which I don't think is a bad name at all, but I don't think I would ever refer to him as that unless he decided to go by that as an adult. What do you think, should I go with just Alfie on the birth certificate, or should I give the full name Alfred to make the name more formal? I've seen Alfie is quite popular as whole name over in the UK but I don't think it's used much here in the US. Thanks!

Alfred is an awesome name! Besides, you never know how he's going to feel about what name he wants to go by. Alfred gives him more choice.

Alfie is completely perfect and great as a formal name. It's like Archie. Alfred isn't my style. Alfie sounds sweet and inviting

Alfred, nn Alfie, gmv. Alfie is adorable, but he may want something not as adorable as he ages.
There's also Alphonse (and variants), Ralph, Balfour, and even Gandalf. Good luck! :0)

Not a fan of Alfred. Alfie would be fine on its own or the suggestion of Alford is a good one.
