Mallory vs. Opinions
I really want to name my daughter Mallory. I'm scared that she'll resent me because of the meaning "unfortunate". I don't care about the meaning, because I just love the sound! Should I reconsider this name because of the meaning?

No, baby name meanings are stupid. Just because it means unfortunate it doesn't mean she won't like you. Just don't let her know the meaning, because it really doesn't matter. If you don't care about the meaning it's seriously not worth taking into consideration.

I wouldn't. In fact, that's one reason it isn't on our list. Words have meanings and names are words. Yes, most of them have meanings that are taken from other languages or from archaic forms of English, but it's easy to look those up. In some cases you can consider the meaning to be a metaphor. For example Cecilia/Cecily means blind. You can take that like the phrase "Justice is blind", seeing no difference between people and treating them equally. But I've never been able to find a way in which misfortune can be a metaphor.
Valerie has a similar sound and a much better meaning. I'll take valor and courage over misfortune any day.

I still like Mallory despite its meaning. I had a classmate in kindergarten with that name.
I dont like it. Mal means bad in Latin.

At some point, most kids I knew became interested in the origin and meanings of their names and would look them up. I think it's quite possible a child might not be thrilled to be named "unfortunate".

Poster 1 is a fool, telling you to lie to your child. Idiotic, and unless you plan on keeping her illiterate, impossible. Obviously some people don't care, but many, many people are very interested in names and their meaning, they dont have to impede, though, and often research gives options... in German it means 'army counselor'

Honestly every Mallory I personally know and have seen in media bad things have happened to them. Mallory Beach being the latest, the girl killed in 2019 because she fell of a boat and drowned. The ones I personally know just seemed to have bad luck. But I'm not one to say "don't use that!!" Because personally I don't really care what other people name their kid as long as it's an actual name. I prefer Melanie but if you really like Mallory then sure,
