Layla vs. Leila
Both are pronounced the same ('LAY-la'), but we are not sure on the spelling. I like that Leila is less phonetic-looking, but I think Layla will save a lot of spelling issues. Comments are very welcome so please let me know your thoughts! Thank you!

I read a book about an Arab woman named Leila, spelled this way, and as the name is Arabic, this spelling has always seemed more authentic to me for that reason. I agree - it looks less like a made-up phonetic spelling and more like a name with history and meaning to me. And I just think it's prettier.

I'm not a fan of the "lay" part in the other spelling Layla. Kids get teased for the most insane reasons.

Leila is lovely, Layla looks like an illiterate version.
